Be a part of the magic. Join Phoenix as our Apprentice Conductor.
Phoenix Chamber Choir welcomes applications from emerging conductors to join Phoenix as our Apprentice Conductor.
The Phoenix Apprentice Conductor program is a unique, one-year term opportunity that aims to provide a supportive environment where young conductors can develop their skills, while collaborating with a vibrant, high-level community ensemble.
In addition to singing with Phoenix as an ensemble member, the Apprentice Conductor will:
Receive free private conducting instruction from Artistic Director Nicholle Andrews
Attend all regular season events, including rehearsals, concerts, and tours
Be prepared to step in for full rehearsals or sectionals when needed
Conduct two pieces in-concert over the course of the Phoenix season
Applicants will be given consideration for the Apprentice Conductor position alongside their regular Phoenix Chamber Choir audition. On the audition registration form, applicants will submit a link to a video of themselves conducting in rehearsal, approximately 10 minutes in length.
“My experience as the apprentice conductor with the Phoenix Chamber Choir has been an invaluable and
eye-opening experience for my growth as a choral director.”
In working with Nicholle, she challenged me to focus on aspects of choral directing which I otherwise would not have and helped me better understand their importance and impact. I think differently about how I carry myself and speak to a choir in a rehearsal.
